Why Are We Needed?
California’s public schools consistently rank near the bottom of all public schools in the 50 U.S. states in both educational quality and student achievement. In Santa Clara County, alarmingly high numbers of high school graduates are not adequately prepared to start higher-education studies or careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Meanwhile, knowledge and ability in these very areas are required to obtain and succeed in most living-wage jobs in Silicon Valley.
That’s why we need Legacy Tech. This new public charter high school will offer all Santa Clara County students in grades 9 through 12 an equal opportunity to a high-quality STEAM-focused education. (STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.)
Silicon Valley is the perfect place for a school like Legacy Tech. The Valley’s information technology resources are phenomenal. The school will partner with IT corporations and other businesses and professionals to provide an innovative STEAM-based curriculum. And students will have opportunities for on-site work experiences at some of the Valley’s leading technology firms.
We at Legacy Tech are committed to producing students who are prepared to excel in colleges and universities. We envision them joining the next wave of people working – and creating – at Apple, Google, LinkedIn, Facebook, Uber, and whatever else our fast-moving high-tech society may bring.
